担任本片配乐的作曲家Rachel Portman1960年12月11日出生在英国。她的第一部电影配乐《权力》是一部非常成功的学生电影，男主人公由崭露头角的休·格兰特饰演，影片配乐获得了成功，波特曼从此走上影视配乐的道路。1988年，波特曼荣获英国电影学会的年度青年作曲家奖，受到评论界的关注。但是，她的成名还是因为道格拉斯·麦克格兰斯导演的影片《爱玛》所作的配乐。Rachel Portman以此获得奥斯卡最佳原创配乐。她也是奥斯卡历史上第一位获此殊荣的女性作曲家。Rachel Portman还曾两次获得奥斯卡提名：《The Cider House Rules》(1999年)、《Chocolat》(2000年)。

剧情简介：

本片根据英国着名作家简·奥斯汀(Jane Austen)同名名著《爱玛》(Emma)改编。

爱玛是一位出身高贵、漂亮而又性格开朗的姑娘，母亲去世与姐姐的出嫁使她过早地成了家里的女主人，她喜欢撮合别人的婚姻和恋爱，因为她认为自己是个有主见的女子。周旋于错综复杂的三角恋爱关系之间，爱玛也不知究竟应该爱谁，不过，在经历了一连串的误会之后，爱玛终于找到了自己爱人，她的好朋友奈特利先生，皆大欢喜，影片中的每一个人都得到了真爱。

精彩视点：

饰演女主角爱玛的格温妮丝·帕尔特洛当时年仅24岁（1972年出生），她漂亮、端庄、高傲的外表在近两个小时的影片中格外引人注目，她身上典雅的贵族气质的确是扮演爱玛的最佳人选。这也是她第一次饰演英国人，后来她坦言第一次需要在银幕上说英国口音时自己非常紧张，着实苦练了一番才敢开口。可以说，格温妮丝·帕尔特洛的成功表演着实让聪明、美丽的爱玛形象深藏在观众们的心中。这部片子即成为她的成名之作。仅仅过了3年(1999年)，再次出演英国人的她凭借《莎翁情史》里出色的演出最终登上了第71届奥斯卡影后的宝座。
