今年已经85岁的庄老先生虽然有些耳背，但精神不错，看到众多记者纷纷为拍照位置而争论不休的时候，老先生风趣地说，“这里全都是导演，只有我一个是演员”。他对记者第一个问题就毫不留情面，“让我谈跟邓丽君的交往，这个问题也是所有记者问我的问题，但我的回答总是让大家失望，因为我们从来都没有交往。也许曾经哪年哪月哪日在哪个比赛上，邓丽君作为参赛歌手，我作为比赛评委，可能见过一面，但这一切都不复记忆了。我们见面无缘，却在心灵上有缘，我写了很多歌，她唱了很多我写的歌。”

谈到对邓丽君的印象时，庄老先生先要声明自己是通过报纸的描述和电视的播放了解到的，“邓丽君还保持着纯粹中国传统女孩子的风格，温柔、大方、不造作，她对自己严格要求，对歌曲的诠释非常认真；它不是林青霞那种美女，但她有特殊的亲和力，有台缘儿，人见人爱。”“有人说我是专门为邓丽君写歌词，其实我给很多歌星写，不过的确像《又见炊烟》、《海鸥飞处》、《海韵》等等这些歌词的内涵都与邓丽君的性格非常接近，典雅的词配上她的外形，可以说是不谋而合。有报纸说‘没有庄奴就没有邓丽君’，我要说‘没有邓丽君也没有庄奴’。因为她的诠释对我的创作也非常重要。”

庄老先生谈到邓丽君当年如此走红的原因，“她本人看上去温柔压制，但内心积极向上。无论是在日本、东南亚、香港、台湾，她都始终是最努力的，在香港她的粤语和英语都是非常出色的，特别是在日本她能够与环境生根，进而成为亚洲首屈一指的日语歌星，绝不是无缘无故平步青云。她在那个时代所达到的登峰造极，应该是后辈的标杆！”( 晨报记者 李澄)
